NSJ Swim Team Week 6

Great meet yesterday vs Watermont. They have a very fast team this year and we made a mighty try for a comeback with those relays. Huge thanks to everyone that stayed to cheer on our Blue Marlins. If you have not gotten to see relays yet this year, we encourage you all to stay to the very end as our relay teams are all so exciting to watch and the volume of the cheering crowds is invigorating to all our swimmers. We also got a nice cheer send off from Watermont which was fun and may be nice for us to do for Forest Hill next week. This will be an exciting meet with our crosstown rivals.

NSJ vs Forest Hill 7/6

Declare your swimmers availability in Swimtopia. Please check in with Amy by 0800. Warm ups begin at that time. Text or call if you will be late. We cannot exchange lines up if you have not checked in and are on a relay, which can delay the start of the meet. We are aware there was an issue with relays not displaying in Swimtopia. We believe it to be fixed but again, this is why all swimmers need to check in the morning of the meet. This meet will be Hawaiian themed so please dig out your grass skirts and flower leis! Also, thanks to everyone that brought extra canopies last home meet, we would love to have some again for our timers, etc as the forecast does not appear to be much cooler this weekend.

Practice This Week 7/1-7/5

As noted in the email from Coach Steve, tomorrow will be a MondayFunday with times changed to 11 and over from 0800-0900 and 10 and under from 0900-1000. There is NO practice on July 4 but we hope to see many of you July 4 at the pool with DJ Kopec and a lot of fun games planned. We will have regularly scheduled practices Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday.

Don Schaub:

Calling all Novice Swimmers! The Don Schaub Invitational will be held on at the Five Oaks Swim Club in Catonsville. For all of our new families, this is a GREAT meet for beginner swimmers. In order to participate in the meet, a swimmer's time has to be slower than a certain time. We highly encourage swimmers who qualify for this meet to participate if at all possible. We will post the events and the qualifying times there once we receive them from the host team. You will note that some of the age groups are different from those in our dual meets, but the strokes and distances are the same as our dual meets. Please note that we pay entry fees for this meet which are absorbed by Swim Team. It is not an additional expense to you for your swimmer(s) to participate, but it is an expense to the team. If a swimmer does not show up for the meet, we still have to pay the entry fees associated with that swimmer. More info to come but also not NO practice July 10 afternoon as all coaches will be at the meet.

Corinne McHale has taken on the role this year but is looking for someone to shadow her and learn the ropes. Her kids may not be swimming next year so she may moving on. Please reach out if this may be your calling. It fulfills all your volunteer time and is imperative for us to be able to have a banquet as all of the concession money goes to that event.

SLIDESHOW:

Here is the link for the general slideshow pictures. Please add your favorite pictures from the season: Please contact Amy or Tim if you can set up the slideshow. This is also a fan favorite at the banquet and not something we can manage as well.

Volunteers:

Jobs are now open in Swimtopia. Please note a few jobs have been added based on need. Thank you to the three families that have volunteered more than required already and for those families that have yet to volunteer but are attending meets, please remember your help is necessary to make these meets successful. 100% of this swim team is volunteer based from the managers, concessions, pep rallies, and meet help. We need all of you to do your part so we can all enjoy the team.

Data Entry:

Interested in learning the data entry role? Email [email protected] to shadow Tim in learning the position. Comes with shade!

Shirts and Caps:

Team shirts will be available for pick up from Amy at morning practice (except 7/1) and Tim at afternoon practice. Swim caps have taken much longer to arrive and are expected this week. As soon as we get them, they will also be available at practices and all meets.
